My Quiet Rendezvous

Serenity, sometimes that's all we need. Unfortunately, you might scarcely find it, especially when you live in an approximately 20 millions populated city. Here I share some of my precious "happy place", my quiet rendezvous. They might be also the place you might also enjoy, especially to my fellow introverts.

These are 10 cafes or restaurants that I found best to recharge myself. They usually meets the same characteristic, and those don't include the food quality--since I could do any glass of juice as a reason to sit there for an hour or two. :D
  • They usually have small spaces. A big space usually means more tables. More tables would possibly bring more "noise" to the sanctuary.
  • More corners are better than a big square room.
  • Enough space between tables--because that means more personal space for you as well.
  • Affordable price.
  • Definitely no live music--nor backsound music if possibly.
  • No malls (eventhough we have 117 of them in town, with pricy parking lot).
  • Preferably with AC, wifi, and electric plug.
  • They might not be the place called "a great place to hang out". Most visitors most likely be a single person with a laptop, a book, or any gadgets.
  • They're not a hip place (and I really hope they wouldn't be *selfish* :p).
So, here are those places.

Noi Pizza
Jl. Pinang Kuningan I No.4,
Pondok Indah, Jakarta Selatan
021-70339494 / 021-7695692
It's a small house that's decorated into a very cozy restaurant with only a few tables. It's like having some private guests at your own living room. It's definitely a place where you can enjoy a good conversation with your significant other. I hope you can find this house beneath the other houses. Meal starts at 33k, and drinks at 10k.

Dunkin Donut Rawamangun
Jl. Balai Pustaka Timur no. 8,
Rawamangun, Jakarta Timur 13220
This is the biggest Dunkin Donut branch I've ever known. It has a big parking lot, and two floors of seating area. I think there's also a smoking area upstairs. Make sure your gadgets are fully recharged, because there are limited electric plugs around the area. Accompanied by a donut and a cup of hot chocolate, you would be ready to enjoy yourself in on of those small tables dedicated for one or two.

Blueberry Pancake House (24 hours)
Hotel Cipta (opposite to Jl. Jaksa exit)
Jl. Wahid Hasyim no. 53, Menteng, Jakarta Pusat
It's my very favorite place to enjoy myself. It has a good wifi (but sometimes not), good food with affordable price (meal starts from 25k, drinks 10k), electric plug at every couch (but only at the smoking area), great ambience (more at weekends, where everybody might go to the malls), and it opens 24 hours! Whew, what more could you expect?

7-Eleven Sudirman Park
Jl. K. H. Mas Mansyur Kav. 35, Karet Tengsin, Jakarta Pusat
Weekends are the best times to enjoy this place at most. It's the time when everybody goes to malls, restaurants, cafes, or other hip places in town. Plus, less activity inside the Sudirman Park itself, no school on weekends, as well as the offices holiday. Maybe it's al so because this 7-eleven is more isolated than others that placed at the side of the main roads--mostly in the hook. When you're lucky, you sometimes can have the entire 2nd floor for yourself. Well, it definitely feels like a sanctuary in the middle of the town.

Papa Jack Kopitiam
Jl. Arjuna Utara Terusan no. 2,
Kedoya, Jakarta Barat
021-58354677 / 087769993888
Big space that might help you to get some "privacy" by having some distance to the table next to you. Go to the 2nd floor (it's a smoking area), take the couch at the corner. It's more quiet with electric plug at every couch. At weekend this place might be more crowded. Meal starts around 35k, drinks 18k.

Anastomosis Cafe
Jl. Pondasi No. 50C,
Pulo Gadung, Jakarta Timur 14310
Another 2nd floor preference for a more quiet space (it's also the smoking area). Good price (food starts from 15k, drinks below 10), but not much choices, with standard quality. Electric plug also available at certain tables.

Warung Kopi Proklamasi
Jl. Proklamasi No. 41, Cikini, Jakarta Pusat
021-41325179 / 081314530005
Placed in the area of Freedom Institute Library, right in front of Tugu Proklamasi. The "warung" placed in an old-style house with classic interios, as if we're in the Presiden Soekarno era. I love it. You can choose whether you want to sit in the inside, at the terrace, or even at the little garden placed between the cafe and the library. Electric plug available at some spots. Meal starts at 25k, and drinks at 5k. Opening hours are same as the library. On Mo-Fri it opens until 21:00, Sat until 19:00, and it closes on Sunday.

That's Life Coffee
Jl. Gunawarman no. 24, Senopati,
Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan 12110
A small cafe located on the 2nd floor of a house. It's so warm and simple. With a cup of coffee, you can enjoy a good conversation about life, or just enjoying yourself. There's a WiFi connection and enough electric plug to make yourself feel like home. All is smoking area. Drink starts from 18k, and food from 35k.

1/15 Coffee
Jl. Gandaria 1 no. 63, Gandaria, Jakarta Selatan 12130

Bakoel Koffie
Jl. Cikini Raya no. 25, Cikini, Menteng, Jakarta Pusat

Huk Family Restaurant
Rumah Putih
Jl. Cempaka Putih I no. 38, Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat
